Born in the colony of Sargava before it became the nation of Vidrian. Ignaci knows the meaning of the word sacrifice. While he refuses to elaborate on his past, a mixture of distrust and not wanting to relive those memories, it is clear he was taught from an early age to be clandestine and learned the importance of symbols (hence why he is a thaumaturge). The Party has discovered he is fully trained in cryptography and alchemy, creating his own form of encryption for note-taking. Whether by habit or from paranoia, even his class notes are encrypted.

(Note: The Party likely assumes his family heritage is from Cheliax, which might explain his love of symbols and assumption that everyone is lying to him as Cheliax history books are notorious for being fake / rewritten by the [[https://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Order_of_the_Rack|Hellknight Order of the Rack]]. Coming to the Magaambya and finding out the Ten Magic Warriors also practiced in rewriting history has not helped his paranoia.)

The Party has also discovered Ignaci is an amateur sleuth. He naturally assumes everyone is lying to him, even his textbooks (and especially maps), which led him to the discovery of the underground passages before any other student. Believing this to be the school trying to cover up something, he did not tell anyone as the other students are not as careful to keep their mouths shut like Ignaci is.
